Merging Canvases: From Fine Art to UX Research & Design

Hello there, I'm Biju!

I am a first year graduate student studying Human Computer Interaction at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. Go Blue!

I studied Fine Art at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA in my undergraduate years. My journey began in Fine Art, where I learned to tell stories through visual mediums. I’m excited to infuse this unique perspective into crafting intuitive and accessible design that can enhance everyday experiences.

I believe that only those who’ve deeply explored their own stories can truly listen to and empathize with others. Though the role has changed, my Fine Art background fosters a broader perspective that resonates with users.

DDC Studio: non-profit art organization

During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, I co-founded a non-profit organization in my hometown, Ulsan, South Korea. What started as a personal ambition to make opportunity to showcase my paintings grew into a collaborative effort with local artists. Together, we organized over 10 art events, hosted 4 major exhibitions within an year and half, and significantly increased artist exposure, which helped boost the art scene in Ulsan.

This journey was transformative both on a personal and professional level, building a deeper love for human connection and communication, and resolving multi-faced problems. The establishment and growth of DDC Studio have been a pivotal chapter in my life journey, shaping me into a multidisciplinary individual.
